Applying to the University of California System
q Applications will be available in the Guidance Office or online – www.ucop.edu/pathways
q One application for all eight campuses.
q Each campus costs $40.00 to apply
q Required testing: SAT I and SAT II ( 3 subject tests must be taken by Dec. – Writing, Math,
and 1 of your choice)
q Application filing is the entire month of November.
q Access to the on-line system begins October 1st for guided tours
q Do not send transcripts until requested.
q Do use the transcript you received to fill out the self-reported grades on the application.
q Letters of recommendations are not accepted.
q An essay is required. The essay is an important part of the application. Approx. 40% of admitted
applicants have their essays read and evaluated by UC admissions officers.
q As a result of the “Comprehensive Review” all essays will be read and evaluated. –This
year’s seniors must write on all three essays! One essay may be up to 600 words, and the other two may be 200 words
each for a total of 1000 words.
q Make contact with your favorite English teacher and have him/her check your essay.
q UC rep application workshop is on Monday, October 6th
in the library at 10:15.
q Only UC eligible (3.0
gpa) may attend
