Community College Notes:

You are eligible to attend a Community College:

  • If you have a high school diploma (or the equivalent) or are 18 years of age or older. 
  • If you are a high school junior or senior and you have a written recommendation from the high school principal or counselor (signed also by your parent or legal guardian), you may be allowed to attend if space is available in your chosen classes.

Most community colleges will give credit for high school AP test scores of 3 or higher!

Community Colleges have guaranteed transfer admission agreements to specific UC's,    CSU's and private colleges if students maintain a certain GPA in community college. Contact Westmont's College and Career Center (whsccc@cuhsd.org for the list. West Valley has an Honors program with a transfer agreement to UCLA and  DeAnza Honors Program has a transfer agreement to UC Berkeley. Budget cuts may affect these current progams.

There are five community colleges within 20 minutes of Westmont - DeAnza, Foothill, Mission, San Jose City and West Valley.

Honors Programs at West Valley and De Anza
 
Did you know that Westmont seniors with a 3.5 cumulative GPA are eligible for Honors Programs at both West Valley and De Anza?  Completion of the program will gives students priority consideration for transfer to highly competitive universities such as UCLA, USC, Berkeley, UC Irvine, UCSC, Riverside, and private schools Pomona, Pepperdine, and Santa Clara.  Students also qualify for special scholarships and grants.  There is a 97% successful transfer rate to 4 year universities. West Valley Honors Program flyers are available in the College and Career Center.

DeAnza's Honors Program Go to www.deanza.edu and search for Honors Program. To qualify, you must meet ONE of these criteria:
• ACT English score of 25 or higher
• High school GPA of 3.30 or higher
• College GPA of 3.30 or higher in at least 15 UC transferable quarter units
• SAT verbal score of 620 or higher, or 550 if taken prior to April 1995

West Valley College Honors Program flyers are available in the College and Career Center, room 17.  To qualify: high schools students with a 3.5 gpa or qualify as a WVC student with an A in English 1A or a 3.25 GPA on at least nine units of University transferable work at West Valley.

 
 

Santa Barbara City College Transfer Academy Offers Guaranteed Transfer to UCSB
The Santa Barbara City College is offering a smart and affordable opportunity for students to obtain a UCSB degree.  You can save money in two ways. First you can cross enroll with UCSB and avoid formal admission fees. Second you can save money by taking transferable classes at community college prices.  The Transfer Academy is an SBCC program that guides you through the process and courses needed to qualify for transfer to UCSB.  For more information either stop by the Career and College Center or go the SBCC Transfer Academy  web site, http://www.transferacacemy@sbcc.edu/.
